Welcome to
Papplewick Pumping Station
Britain’s finest Victorian Waterworks

Opening Dates & Times

The Pumping Station is in steam 8 times a year on the dates listed below with all engines running including the James Watt beam engines, the Linby colliery winding engine and miniature railway. We also offer tours of the underground reservoir during steam events (additional charge of £2 p.p. applies). Please note that the steam plant is very old and therefore we cannot guarantee everything will be running and although rare break downs can occur!

When not in steam the Station is open to the public every Sunday, please see times below. Please note that the Station is not open during the week except for pre-booked group visits of 15 or more people. If you would like to enquire about a group booking please contact the Station via the Contact Us tab.

A chair climber is available for traversing the porch steps. If you are thinking of visiting us please click here to view our Access Statement.
